Find the Best Site for Your Wedding!

Finding the perfect spot for your wedding ceremony and reception doesn’t have to be hard.  Use these questions to help you narrow down your choices and then decide between them!

Review some of our favorite
Wedding Sites!

1.  Does the space fit your wedding style?
Make sure you know what your style is so that you can match it!

2.  Does it fit within your budget?
Know your budget BEFORE you start to look at properties.

3.     What do they charge for the ceremony site?
What does this include? Make sure you ask what is included in the ceremony site.

4.  How much do they charge for the reception?
What does this include? What is included or not is very important.  Is alcohol, an open bar, corkage fee, cake cutting, service and tip included or are these items separate.  Are seating and tables included, or do they have to be rented from the caterer?  What are their packages and what do they include?

5.  What are your contractual obligations?
Do they have a contract for you to both to sign?  Do they have a payment plan? What is their cancellation/refund policy?  Do they have liability insurance or do you need to get it?

6.  Is the room large enough for your reception? Is it too large?
Just as for the ceremony site, the reception site must be just the right size.

7.  Is there enough space for the caterer to set up and serve?
This is important if you are not using a hotel or restaurant that has a kitchen on site, but bringing in a caterer.

8.  Is the ceremony location easy to get to?
The day of your wedding it should be easy for your guests to arrive at and find your wedding site.  Is it easily accessible for elderly and disabled guests? This is important if you have a several elderly guests or disabled guests at your wedding.

9.  Is the space private?
First you have to decide how much you value  your privacy for your wedding day.

10.  Does the site reflect something about your personalities?
Make sure you choose a site that complements who you are.

11.  Is it quite enough for the ceremony? What is happening next door?
These are important questions, especially if you are at a hotel that does a lot of corporate events.

12.  Is there enough lighting – or too much?
You want to have just enough lighting.

13.  What is the view?
The view may be less important for the reception as you will be dining and dancing the night away, but the view for the ceremony is important.

14.  Do the colors match your wedding plans?
If color is important to you, make sure you check what is blooming at the time of your wedding for an outdoor wedding, and review the site colors if you are having an indoor wedding.

15.  Does it work for the specific time of your wedding?
Review the site at the time you are planning your wedding and reception. If you can’t be there in person, ask the site coordinator for information about sun set times for the time of your wedding.

16.  Are the ceremony and reception site close together? After the ceremony you don’t want your guests to have to traipse all over the place to find your receptions site.

17.  Do you like the ceremonies decor?
Do they provide chairs and do you like them?  What are the additional charges to change them?

18.  Is the site available for a rehearsal?
Verify that you are able to have a rehearsal at the time you choose (usually the day before the wedding at the same time).

19.  Do they provide coordination help?
Does the catering manager also assist with the rehearsal and the ceremony or do they only support you for the reception? Will they be on site the day of the wedding?

20.  Is there ample parking?
Is parking free or what is the charge? Can you set it up to be covered as part of your site fee? What about valet and tips?

21.  How long will you have the site?
Ask specifically about your timing at the site.  How early will you have access to the site for set up and preparation?

22.  Do they have a weather back-up plan?
Even in the desert, it is important to have a back up plan for rain or wind disturbances.  Will they charge you extra for this?

23.  How is the food? Do a food tasting.
The food you serve must meet your standards.

24.  Will there be another party at the site before or after yours?
This is very important if you need access to the site for any set up or decoration.

25.  Are there other events at the facility at the same time as yours?
In a large facility this may not be a problem after all they do this all the time, but make sure they have enough parking/valet for multiple events so that your guests are not late to your wedding ceremony.

26. Is there an in house caterer or can you bring your own?
At most large resorts, you are required to use their in house staff.    At smaller hotels and local venues, there may be preferred caterers that they want you to choose from.

27.  Do you like the reception decor?
What are the chairs like? Can you upgrade them if you like? Who provides the linens and table ware and what are your choices?

28.  Do they have a liquor license?
If they don’t, do you or they have to get one for the day of the event? Can you set up a bar your own bar?

29.  Are there enough restrooms?
This is so important, yet it is often overlooked!

30.  Do they provide security or do you need to provide your own?
This is particularly important for private estate rentals, historic sites or civic properties.

31.  Is there a dress code?
This is another important question, especially for private country clubs.

32.  Is there a noise cut off time?
If you like to party far into the night, this is an important question to ask of every facility you are considering.
